Beatrice Moore was born May 16, 1943 in the piney woods of Needmore GA. She was the second child born to Richard Moore, Sr. and Thelma A. Hobbs. Beatrice lost her mother to maternal mortality at the tender age of one. She and her sister Juanita were raised by a village of relatives including her grandmother Winnie Moore, aunt Ethel McClary (Richard), uncle William Moore (Martha), stepmother, Almarine Moore and aunt Annie Lucille Davis (Randolph). Beatrice and her sister ultimately ended up in the guardian care of their mother’s loving older sister, Annie Lucille Davis. They resided in Lake City prior to relocating to Winter Haven, Florida. Beatrice often credited Annie with providing her with a loving stable home, spiritual guidance, and a sound education.
Beatrice’s spiritual education began at The Tabernacle Church Of God in Valdosta, GA. As ayoung woman in Winter Haven she was a devoted member of Saint Paul Holiness Church and sang with Angela’s Gospel Singers. While a resident of Queens, New York, she was a member of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York.
Beatrice was a graduate of the Jewett High School Wolverine Class of 1961. After graduation, she moved to New York and worked at the New York Telephone Company. After her son, Andre LuVint Miller, was born she returned to New York to pursue a degree in fashion. Beatrice earned her BA degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She enjoyed a long distinguished career in the fashion industry in New York working for companies such as Butterick and Vogue.
Beatrice loved the sights and sounds of New York City and the opportunities it had to offer. She made New York City her home for over five decades. She enjoyed Broadway plays, traveling, gardening and mostly being a mother.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, Richard Moore Sr. and Thelma A. Moore; A beloved son, Andre LuVint Miller; Brother, Melvin Moore; A dedicated cousin, James (Jimmie) Columbus Henry.
Beatrice leaves to cherish her loving memory, a dear aunt: Mary Hobbs of Nashville, GA; sisters: Juanita Geathers of Winter Haven, FL:, Gloria Jean Barber of Safety Harbor, FL; Belma Jean Owens of Valdosta, GA; brother: Richard Moore, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; a special cousin: Claude Hobbs (Barbara) of Riverview, FL; a devoted niece: Renee Sanders of Stuart, FL; a special great niece: Brittney Geathers of Tallahassee, FL; a true friend: Betty Ann Smothers of Winter Haven, FL; a caring neighbor: Keith Hillery of Winter Haven, FL; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
